The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a warning to households that this week's cold weather will increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The RMI has warned Belgians to pay particular attention to their fireplaces and heaters.

Despite bright skies accompanying Belgium into the start of the week, the RMI's weekly forecast has indicated that temperatures will not rise over 2°C during the next seven days.

Furthermore, the weather-monitoring institute anticipates extremely cold evenings, with temperatures hitting sub-zero in most areas.

The RMI has advised people to remain aware of common symptoms such as headaches or nausea that might be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. Especially as 60 Belgians died from carbon monoxide poisoning in 2022, a danger that is greatly amplified by cold weather.
