The Walloon Government has approved the list of 345 healthcare establishments (32 hospitals and 313 care homes) that will benefit from the European ‘REACT-EU’ scheme, Regional Health Minister, Christie Morreale announced on Tuesday.

The scheme is aimed at providing Wallonia with financial support to repair the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its ensuing social consequences.

Over €35 million has been made available for these improvements, the regional health minister said. Thanks to this new funding, these structures will soon be able to acquire equipment or carry out infrastructure work in order to meet their needs in the event of new health crises.

In terms of infrastructure, rooms will be better fitted to manage the flow of entries and exits; the infrastructure of certain laboratories will be reviewed to allow test analyses to be carried out on-site, and furthermore, the creation of staff relaxation areas.

This new fund will also make it possible to install more certified equipment for disinfecting rooms or to acquire additional equipment for oxygen therapy and ventilation.
