Belgian dies on ski slope in Austria

A 26-year-old Belgian died at a ski slope in Austria, Het Laatste Nieuws reports. The skier, a native of Knokke-Heist, was killed after a fall on a black run.

According to local Austrian news, the accident happened on Tuesday morning in Rohrberg, in the Zillertal Arena ski area. Relatives of the victim stated that the skier descended the slope at high speed while making many turns, before ultimately losing control.

The man took a heavy fall and was found motionless at the side of the piste. His friends called for emergency services, but the victim died at the scene.

According to data from the University of Innsbruck, there are around 0.36 deaths from trauma per million skiers. Most injuries are minor, with a torn cruciate ligament representing around 15-21% of all ski-related injuries.
