Jean-Maurice Dehousse, who served as a Federal Minister, MEP and former Walloon Minister-President, has died at the age of 86. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.
The news was confirmed on Thursday by Frédéric Daerden, the president of the French-speaking Socialist Party's local chapter in the city of Liège, where Dehousse served as mayor from 1995 to 1999.
Dehousse was born in 1936 and became a federal MP when he was 35 years old. Between 1992 and 1994, he was also the Federal Minister for Scientific Research.

His political career was defined by his support for trade unionism and a strong attachment to the region of Wallonia. Dehousse was one of the main opponents to the failed union of Wallionia and the French-speaking community.
