Political demonstrations on Sunday forbidden in Brussels

The city of Brussels has banned all demonstrations and rallies this Sunday, 10 April. The decision was taken on Friday by acting mayor Karine Lalieux (PS) in agreement with the police authorities in the Brussels-Ixelles police district after taking into account a threat analysis.

In this way, events or gatherings of far-right militants belonging to nationalist groups will be prohibited in the territory of Brussels. They had announced plans to demonstrate against the mayor Yvan Mayeur.

A group of anarchists had announced their intention to protest on Saturday afternoon in the capital against "the militarization of our lives". However, no request for a demonstration has been submitted and any demonstration will therefore be illegal and prohibited, according to the Brussels mayor's office.

Gatherings of Muslim associations are foreseen to take place on Saturday at 14:30 in front of the subway station Maelbeek to pay tribute to the victims in the terror attack on 22 March.
