Following the holidays, the communal councillors of the City of Brussels shall be equipped with tablets, announced Tuesday the Alderman in charge of IT, Mohamed Ouriaghli (PS). According to him, the aims sought are in the spheres of the environment, finances and human resources management.
According to Mohamed Ouriaghli, this evolution of digitalization will provide an environmental gain of about 100,000 pages per year (approximately 5,000 pages per counsellor) in the operations of 20 ordinary assemblies, a lowering of fuel consumption and of kilometres travelled (3,000), given that the documents were delivered to the homes of the counsellors, and a better management of human resources, since the two drivers and two conveyor administrative assistants (who employed 1,200 hours in this mission alone) designated to these deliveries will be employed in other more functional tasks.
Besides the savings generated, it is also a matter of making available to the elected public servants a functional solution of access, at a distance, to numerous elements issued by the Secretariat of Assemblies, said the Alderman.
In the political sphere, added the Alderman, “this digitalization and good sense transition” materializes a commitment of the majority, which is to dematerialize documents (orders of the day, reports and annexes, bylaw bills and annexes) which were transmitted physically. “It is part of the ‘Smart City’ policy, which I am leading, while conforming to the commitment taken on by the City in relation to sustainable development (Agenda 21).”
