Geneviève Lhermitte, sentenced in 2008 to life imprisonment for killing her five children, has died, Sudinfo newspapers wrote on Thursday morning.

According to Sudinfo, she died at the Leonardo da Vinci hospital in Montigny-le-Tilleul. Various reports refer to euthanasia, but this has not been confirmed by relatives.

The date of her death is sixteen years to the day of the murder of her children and her own survived suicide attempt.

On 28 February 2007, she knocked out and then killed her five children; Yasmine, Nora, Myriam, Mina and Mehdi, aged 15, 12, 10, 7 and 3 respectively, in their family home in Nivelles. Her husband and father of the children, Bouchaïb Moqadem, was travelling abroad.

She was sentenced in 2008 by the Nivelles Assize Court to life imprisonment, then incarcerated in Forest-Berkendael prison. She was conditionally released in 2019 for psychiatric treatment.
