Two people have been arrested following a robbery with violence committed on Saturday in the Ville 2 shopping complex in Charleroi, police said on Monday.
The two men had just ripped a chain from the neck of a woman in her sixties when they were chased by the Charleroi police.
They were spotted on Saturday afternoon by several teams of the Safety and Public Order Squad near Jules Hiernaux Square in Charleroi, as they tried to flee into the park.
“It was a security guard who informed us that the two men arrested had behaved suspiciously," the Charleroi police zone reported. " When the surveillance cameras of the shopping centre were viewed, it turned out that they had just committed robbery with violence on a person in her sixties from whom they had snatched a chain."
"The searches carried out enabled the object to be found and returned to the victim, who had not realised the theft during the stampede,” the police added.
The two individuals were held and placed under arrest warrants.
