The Muslim Executive of Belgium's theological council will meet at 18:00 on Tuesday evening to decide on the precise date and time at which the Islamic holy month of Ramadan will start in Belgium.

As is the case every year, those practising their Muslim faith will observe a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar. This year's holy month should start at 18:23 on Tuesday evening. Thursday would then represent the first full day of fasting.

However, each country decides on its own initial day of observance, with Belgium's start date to be decided by the Muslim Executive of Belgium, which serves as Belgian Muslims' official representative in the eyes of the Federal Government.

The executive's theological council is expected to reach a decision on the start date in Belgium this evening following a remote meeting, Le Soir reports.
