Absent from the scorecard for the Red Devils since 7 October 2021, Romelu Lukaku returned to the net with Belgium on Friday, scoring all three goals in the national squad’s 3-0 win in Sweden on Friday, in their Euro 2024 qualifier.

Ideally served by Dodi Lukebakio on his first two goals, ‘Big Rom’ then took advantage of an assist from newcomer Johan Bakayoko to score a hat-trick and reach 71 goals for the national team.

“I know what I can bring to the team,” Lukaku told RTBF. “It was a complicated game and I tried to help the youngsters as much as possible. I’m happy to see the potential we have with the youngsters coming through.”

In Domenico Tedesco’s debut, Belgium did not miss out on their start to the Euro qualifiers.

“It was important to start well. I said in the dressing room that it was a new start for everyone,” Lukaku said. “The coach is more direct in his communication and it’s also a change for the older players.

“Now we have to stay positive and look forward,” concluded the new No. 10 of the Devils.
