Belgium’s railway utility, SNCB, is proposing targeted train schedules from 1 to 16 April to cater for the upcoming school holiday programmes, which differ according to communities and levels of study.

“It is mainly peak trains (P) that will be reduced during the Easter holidays,” said Marianne Hiernaux, spokesperson for the railway company.

From 1 to 16 April, train traffic will be modified due to holidays in higher education throughout the country as well as Dutch, German and international primary and secondary schools.

“These holidays ultimately affect a large proportion of commuters – children, teenagers, adults, parents – all over the country, which is why SNCB is adapting the offer of certain trains in an even more targeted way than before,” said Ms. Hiernaux.

The SNCB has compared the frequency and capacity of the various trains circulating in Wallonia or crossing several regions. The frequency should not be affected, stressed the railway company, which has taken care to maintain the trains frequented by schoolchildren or students who are not on holiday.

Infrabel is also planning large-scale work on the network during this period. In particular, train traffic will be interrupted from 1 to 9 April between Nivelles and Brussels-Midi, and from 8 to 16 April between Ottignies and Brussels-Midi.

“We advise travellers to consult the journey planner on their phone or computer before setting off,” Ms. Hiernaux concluded.
