Has the gloomy weather in Belgium in recent weeks brought you down? Are you desperate for a burst of colour in your life? Look no further, this Friday, an art exhibition will open in Brussels which promises to bring a “happy boost for your brain."

The new digital art exhibition HAPPINESS invites people to step into a world of colour, sound, music and interaction. In more than 10 interactive rooms full of 360° media installations, people can discover first-hand the positive boost of art on the human brain.

Some of the installations are created by contemporary Dutch artist Irma de Vries, who for more than two decades has been experimenting with digital technology, computer animation, video mapping, augmented reality and smart light projection.

Her studio has created digital experiential art and installations that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world.

During a 50-minute visit to this colourful world, art and science come together. This family-friendly experience is not only fun but also enlightening and educational, but it also teaches visitors about the impact of art on their happiness.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) already in 2019 noted in a report that scientists have "come to understand the intrinsic health benefits to artistic and leisure activities" in recent decades.

Art can have several benefits for a person's health: the creation and enjoyment of the arts help promote holistic wellness, while it can also help people emotionally recover from trauma.

Scientific research has also shown a correlation between experiencing art and the increase of dopamine, the ‘happiness hormone’.
