A demonstration in support of the striking Delhaize employees will be held across the Walloon city of Liège on Friday, under the tagline La franchise, c'est non merci which translates to Franchising, no thanks.

Organised by the CSC and the SETca unions, the protest will start at 11:00 from Place Saint-Lambert in Liège's city centre.

The CSC's representative Julien Dejon called on people to show their "disgust" at how Delhaize "wants to reduce the wages and working conditions of their staff" with their new franchising plan,

In Liège alone, 14 stores would be given to independent contractors if Delhaize's plans are pursued which Dejon argues will result in "less advantageous working conditions and careers" also stating how franchised shops sell more expensive products.
