Vincent Kompany praised after leading Burnley back to Premier League

Vincent Kompany has managed to bring Championship side Burnley back to the Premier League.

“There are seven games left and we’re already celebrating," Kompany said following their victory (1-2) against Middlesbrough on Friday. "

They’re like kids, it’s fun. We didn’t expect it. It takes time to build cohesion in the team. But the stress of each match helps to progress quickly. We can go further now and that’s the aim,” the former Red Devils and Manchester City captain told Sky Sports.

“What Vincent has done is something very special,” Burnley chairman Alan Pace said. “It’s a complete surprise, because it wasn’t our plan. Vincent and I had talked about it in the summer, we had given ourselves two or three years, that was our plan.

“I think what you’ve seen is that a lot of magic has happened. This team is very, very good. You hear Vincent say it every week. They surprise us all, every single player, every single day. They are phenomenal.”

The contribution of Vincent Kompany is well appreciated at Burnley. “He’s liberated us, because he believes in us, he believes we’re good players and we can win games,” midfielder Josh Brownhill explained. “The lads who are still here were devastated by relegation last season. We just wanted to get back up and I’m very happy we did.”

“The manager and his staff are very involved with what they do. They are really almost addicted to football. It has shown this season. There have only been a couple of games where we haven’t performed completely,” added Connor Roberts, the goal scorer of the decisive winning goal against Middlesbrough.
