'Crystal Ship' festival kicks off in Ostend adding twenty new frescoes to the city

The 8th edition of the “Crystal Ship” street art festival has kicked off in Ostend.

For each edition, national and international artists create art installations and murals, forming a large route through the city.

This edition saw more than 20 new frescoes added to the route, including three new works by British artist Mobstr, while Brussels artist Jaune took on 10 walls.

Several artists drew inspiration from the city’s history. French artist Julien de Casabianca found inspiration for his work in the art museum Mu.ZEE’s archives. American artist Pat Perry refers to seaside tourism and also gives Ensor and Spilliaert a place in his work.

“These works of art make art accessible to everyone, almost 200 works are dotted around the city,” the city’s mayor, Bart Tommelein, said at the inauguration.
