A fatal accident occurred between a young man (19) on a motorcycle and a bus from Brussels public transport company STIB in the Capital Region around midnight on the night of Sunday to Monday.
The accident happened at the intersection of the Quai de Willebroeck and Boulevard Bolivar, in the north of Brussels. The young man on the motorcycle died immediately, STIB confirmed on Monday.
"The driver of bus line 20 is in shock," the company said.
Information from the Public Prosecutor's Office shows that the STIB bus entered the intersection from Boulevard Bolivar. The motorcyclist, who had entered the intersection from the Quai de Willebroeck and allegedly ignored two red lights, crashed into the side of the bus and did not survive.
The bus driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which has impounded the vehicles involved for further investigation.
Witnesses are currently being interviewed and security footage analysed to further determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
