Some 31 protesters arrested in Brussels in past weeks

Police arrested 31 persons in riots in recent weeks at the Bourse (Stock Exchange), Place de la Monnaie and Avenue Louise in Brussels, according to figures compiled by La Dernière Heure daily and confirmed by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office. A number of other rioters have been identified, but not yet arrested. However, investigations continue and further arrests are expected.

Police arrested 17 persons, including seven minors, outside the Bourse on the 11th of November after a football match between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire.  One of the 10 adults arrested has been charged, six are to appear before the criminal court on the 5th of January and one on the 19th of January.

Four days later, nine minors and one adult were arrested at the Place de la Monnaie, on the occasion of the visit of French YouTube star Vargass92.

On the 25th of November, a demonstration against slavery in Libya degenerated into riots on Avenue Louise. Three minors and an adult were arrested.

Four other rioters have been identified but not yet arrested. Another 14 persons have been identified in the footage on the riots, but their roles in the incidents have not yet been determined.
