The astrophysicist from Liège, Michaël Gillon, was chosen as “Leader of the Year 2017” by the review Lobby. Mr Gillon heads an international team which has discovered four new planets, situated outside of our solar system. The Lobby awards were distributed on Tuesday evening at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. The Economic Leader of the Year is the owner of Belfius, Marc Raisière. He was also selected as French-speaking Manager 2016 by Trends almost a year ago.

The jury chosen by Lobby gave out other prizes. Catherine de Braekeleer, the Director of the Centre of Engraving and the Printed Image in La Louvière, was awarded Cultural Leader of the Year. The rectors of the free universities of Brussels, Caroline Pauwels (the Flemish VUB) and Yvon Englert (the French ULB), have been awarded the Brussels Leaders of the Year. The jury commended their contribution to the positive image of the capital through teaching and research.

Two political personalities were distinguished by the review. These were the Co-president of Ecolo, Zakia Khattabi, being chosen as the Web Leader of the Year, whilst the Brussels Minister, Céline Fremault, won an award specifically for her elegance and stylishness.

The Lobby awards, awarded since 2010, are aimed at personalities who “bring a vision and a message for society”.
