In Flanders, electronic bicycles are being bought for the commute between work and home more and more often. One third (34%) of Flemish people who have an electronic bicycle use it for their commute, according to a VAB mobility poll done on Saturday. It was true for just 21% of people in 2015. This year’s poll involved 2,000 people.
The number of people who own electronic bicycles in Flanders has shot up from 6% to 15% in the space of three years.
The VAB says there is massive potential in electronic bicycles as a substitute for cars. “The task for employers is to make motorists switch to alternatives”, says the Flemish mobility organisation. “Public transport is reaching its limit and is not a possible option for a lot of people. It is clear that electronic bicycles have the biggest potential to reduce the use of cars”.
