Train traffic in Germany was virtually at a standstill on Friday morning due to a strike by the EVG trade union. Stations were quiet, but long-distance traffic should gradually restart by 13:00, Deutsche Bahn reports online. However, on regional lines and the S-Bahn, it will be a little earlier.
Passengers, especially those travelling by long-distance trains, will face consequential delays for hours after the so-called warning strike. The strikes will also result in disruptions at some German airports, namely Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne-Bonn.
Goods transport is also affected by the strike, according to Deutsche Bahn’s announcement, as traffic jams are occurring in marshalling yards.
