A 42-year-old man was detained in Antwerp and placed under arrest by the investigating judge following the discovery of a cannabis plantation in Merksem District, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office said on Friday.
A neighbourhood worker discovered the marijuana crops in a building in Akkerbouwstraat, Antwerp, on Wednesday. Law enforcement officers seized more than 1,000 plants and several cans containing growth-promoting products. The suspect, who was present in the house at the time of the check, was arrested.
He was subsequently presented to an investigating judge who decided to place him under arrest for drug cultivation and burglary. Further investigation will be carried out to identify the other persons involved in the case.
