Security staff at Berlin’s international airport are set to strike on Monday for better pay, the Verdi union announced on Saturday. “Longer waiting times and even flight cancellations or cancellations are to be expected” because of the industrial action, which is being organised all day on Monday, the union warned in a statement.
Verdi had already called for a strike on Thursday and Friday by staff at several German airports, including Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne and even Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.
The union said it had been “negotiating for years with the German federation of aviation security companies (BDLS) for increases in night, Saturday, Sunday and holiday bonuses, as well as for better overtime pay”.
The union had already organised a similar strike at Berlin airport in January, leading to the cancellation or rescheduling of around 300 flights.
