The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège (OPRL) unveiled its programme for next season on Wednesday morning. Shows will start in September in the Philharmonic Hall in Liège.
The 2023-2024 season will see the OPRL focus on a programme of new artistic adventures as the orchestra will change general director thereafter.
“This will be a ‘musical odyssey’ full of discoveries, emotions, and unknowns. It celebrates adventure with an enormous amount of variety and work with other artists, other arts, other ways of showing concerts," outgoing director Daniel Weissmann explained to Belga News Agency.
For Weissmann, this season should appeal to all audiences. “Our catchword is diversity. We have concerts for more experienced music enthusiasts and there will also be concerts for a younger audience that is not used to concert halls. Everyone will find something they like.”

Enticing a younger audience has been one of the orchestra's successes, with subscriptions for the entire season in Liège increasing 76% in the past nine years; the overall number of seats sold has risen from 37,000 to 56,000.
Ageless appeal
“Today, there are five to six times more people in this hall than when I arrived eight years ago. It’s quite colossal. What's the recipe for success? First of all, it’s the passion for what we do, honesty and participation," general manager explains.
After eight years at the helm of the OPRL, Weissmann retires in September.
The 2023-2024 season will begin on Sunday, September 3, with the traditional OPRL open house. A performance is planned for Wednesday evening at 20:00 to present the programme for the next season.
