"If there are no improvements, actions will doubtless follow; we’ve had enough,” the president of the National Union of Police and Security Personnel (SNPS), Carlo Medo said on Wednesday. The police representative was reacting to Tuesday's attack in which an assailant killed three persons, including two policewomen. He said respect for the police had disappeared and that his union was demanding the implementation of measures to correct the situation.
"I’ve never received as many angry messages in my mailbox as yesterday,” Medo said. “The message is simple: stop the empty words. We demand that something be done finally for the police.”
The union feels people no longer respect the security forces. “Police officers no longer feel safe,” Medo said. “Police no longer feel protected by their own government.”
He explained that police officers have been on their knees since the attacks on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. “We have been involved in a debate for months now to determine whether the police profession is a stressful job,” he said.
