City Brussels mayor Philippe Close addressed Monday several recommendations to the Red Devils and other teams’ supporters implicated in the World Football Cup “so that this sport event’s memorable moments can be fully and peacefully enjoyed.’’ “The City will be the playing field for the joyful fun of some, and for the lost hopes of others. The City of Brussels and the Polbru police zone have taken a series of measures to control spontaneous grouping during the whole period of the world cup, in order to maintain the festive and fun spirit that all Brussels citizens can enjoy, said Brussels City mayor.
Likewise, police officers and Bruciteam stewards will be posted mainly around the Bourse, Brussels’ traditional meeting place.
Moreover, through their mayor, the community authorities also called the citizens to respect the work of those in charge of cleanliness and road maintenance, “who will find it difficult to keep the center of Brussels clean, convivial and friendly, considering the expected crowds.”
On the occasion of the World Cup, the authorities have also reminded of “two simple rules to respect’’ to facilitate the police’s work: do not bring a backpack to meeting places and do not use firecrackers or any other pyrotechnical device which “are strictly forbidden.”
Philippe Close also laid stress on the 2018 World Cup’s sport and festive spirit.
“The World Cup is a festive moment, to be lived together with supporters, friends and family. We all remember our first World Cup. Let’s not let a few ruin everyone’s party! I count on everyone’s sense of responsibility. Nonetheless, we shall remain vigilant and the police will be ready to intervene if necessary,” he added.
