A walker on Friday discovered a suspected dumping ground for chemical waste from a synthetic drug laboratory in the province of Limburg.
The walker found no fewer that 90 twenty-litre drums in the woods near the Terlaemen circuit in Heusden-Zolder.
The drums were labelled phosphoric acid, but the investigation will have to determine their exact content. According to the fire brigade, they could contain a less dangerous chemical.
Investigators from the Heusden-Zolder police zone, Limburg federal judicial police, forensic laboratory and the federal police’s Clan Lab Response unit went to the scene to assess the situation.
The environmental damage to the area will also be assessed.
Meanwhile, the civil defence service has been called in to clean up the site.
