Three Dutch nationals were arrested on Sunday night in Franklin Roosevelt Square, in the heart of Antwerp, for carrying a firearm and a suspected explosive device.
This was reported on Monday by the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.
The suspects are aged 17, 25 and 27.
It was not immediately known whether the trio intended to commit an attack. An investigation has been opened and is ongoing.
The public prosecutor’s office has referred the case to an investigating judge and is provisionally classifying it as a violation of the weapons and criminal organisation law.
