Shared mobility giant Lime is set to launch a fleet of 250 bicycles for public use in the Belgian capital over the next few days, Le Soir reports. The first bikes will reportedly be available from today (18 May).
The new shared bicycles, which are available to rent through the Lime or Uber app, will add to the already large number of shared bikes in Brussels. Other companies already present on the capital’s streets include Bolt, Dott, Tier and Poppy.
Lime already operates a fleet of around 3,500 shared electric scooters in the capital. This has been a source of public debate, as the controversial vehicles are often improperly parked, blocking the pavement and causing hazards for vulnerable pedestrians.
The company says that its new shared bicycle fleet will complement its existing scooters, providing "other possibilities to users."

The company's expansion comes at the same time as tightening restrictions on shared mobility within the capital. By 2024, the Brussels government plans to implement drop zones for scooters and limit the number of scooters and shared bicycles in circulation.
