A major road accident involving four vehicles occurred on Saturday afternoon on the E40 motorway, near Sterrebeek, in the direction of Brussels.
One car collided with other vehicles that were stationary in a traffic jam. Several people were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
The motorway is completely blocked, the Flemish traffic centre stated.
Motorists travelling towards Brussels are advised to leave the motorway at the Sterrebeek exit and make a diversion.
It is also recommended to avoid the area, as major disruptions are being experienced.
