Relay for Life returns to Waterloo

Relay for Life is a festive and family event where communities stand in solidarity with those touched by cancer while raising funds for the Belgian Foundation against Cancer. During the event, team members of all ages take turns walking or running around a track for 24 hours, symbolising the fight of every moment led by cancer patients and their caregivers. Cancer affects us all.

Relay for Life returns to Waterloo

Relay for Life is run by a committee of dedicated volunteers who organise the event for the Foundation against Cancer. They are responsible for the event's logistics and publicity, recruiting teams and sponsors, welcoming survivors and organising activities.

This fun 24 hour event returns to St. John's International School in Waterloo on Saturday 24 June at 2pm - Sunday 25 June at 2pm.

During the 24 hours, participants and visitors can enjoy live music, join in wellness and other fun activities, and savour great food and refreshments. It is a festive community event and every relayer, be they a team member or simply a visitor dropping in to take a look, can participate in however way they like. The entire proceeds from Relay for Life are donated in full to the Foundation against Cancer. These funds will help the Foundation in three ways:

1. Financing cancer research.

2. Promoting healthy lifestyles, cancer prevention and screening.

3. Supporting cancer patients, their family and caregivers.

A portion of these funds will go back to the community through the Relay for Life grants, and will finance local projects supporting cancer patients.

Cancer affects us all

At some point in our lives, we are all affected by cancer, directly or indirectly.

Every year, an estimated 71,000 new cases are diagnosed in Belgium. But there is also good news: mortality is decreasing by 1% annually thanks to progress in science. However, financing scientific research will always be the Foundation's main priority.

In addition, the Foundation encourages healthy lifestyles, cancer prevention and screening. It also supports psychosocial projects that improves the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. None of this would be possible without the solidarity and donations from everyday citizens.
