The “firm but humane” asylum policy will continue, deputy prime minister Alexander De Croo said on TV programme De Zevende Dag on Sunday. “No-one in this government wants an open border policy”, he said. He didn’t like the “Marrakesh coalition” term used by the N-VA.
“We will continue the asylum and immigration policy put in place by Maggie De Block (Open Vld) in the previous government”, said De Croo.
He said the N-VA has “subtly” taken another direction regarding Belgium’s position in the world. “It’s a question of principles for me”, he said.
His opinion is shared by Kris Peeters, CD&V deputy prime minister. “The term Marrakesh coalition does not fit what we intend to do”, he said.
