Ukrainian woman sentenced to 11 years in prison for raising funds for pro-Russian fighters

A Ukrainian woman has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison for raising funds for Russian and pro-Russian fighters.

Ukraine’s intelligence service, SBU, announced the sentencing on its Telegram account on Monday.

The woman, from Odessa, allegedly organised a fundraising campaign via social networks to support Russian and pro-Russian fighters active in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine.

Donetsk is in the Donbass region, which has been fighting to break away from the rest of Ukraine since 2014.

The woman is said to have supported two relatives who joined the ranks of pro-Russian separatists in the region in 2016. She was arrested in December.
