A man was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Brussels Criminal Court on Tuesday for attacking airport staff and vandalising the door of a gate after having been denied to board a flight in April 2022 due to alcohol intoxication.
The pilot of the departing flight decided not to allow two passengers on the plane after seeing them visibly drunk and carrying a bottle of liquor. The men protested and confronted the pilot aggressively, but were subdued by the airport staff present.
However, as the plane’s door closed the duo tried to get in anyway. They did not succeed and were taken back to the gate. There, one of the men smashed the door to the gate with a pole and pushed a staff member to the ground. When questioned by the police, the man later stated that he promised to pay for the damage to the door, an action that has still not happened.

The public prosecutor’s office demanded a 10-month prison sentence against the man, while Brussels Airport Company asked for €2,000 compensation for the smashed door, which has also not yet been repaired.
The man himself did not show up at court on Tuesday and was therefore sentenced in absentia to 10 months in prison.
