Brussels convict Ibrahim Akhlal (27), who is known for a spectacular robbery of a gold transport, escaped from prison for a second time after his evasion from Saint-Gilles Prison in 202o.
This time, he escaped from Conakry Prison in Guinea by pretending to be ill.
Akhlal was only arrested in Guinea at the end of last year. An international arrest warrant against him was issued for his involvement in a violent robbery of a gold transport in May 2021 in Amsterdam.
Masked men with machine guns then threatened the staff and took off in various getaway cars with gold bars and precious metals worth €12 million.
Barely six months after his arrest, once again he managed to escape from prison on Tuesday 6 June, local news outlets report. He is said to have feigned a toothache and was transferred to the prison's infirmary.
From there, he managed to escape without leaving a trace. It is thought that he possibly received help from prison staff.

In Belgium, Akhlal has yet to serve a prison sentence of a total of 21 years for a series of four brutal robberies.
In March 2020, he already managed to escape from Saint-Gilles Prison. After he escaped, he became involved in the robbery of the gold transport.
In the end, it was the Belgian Fugitive Active Search Team (FAST) and the Brussels Federal Judicial Police who succeeded in tracing Akhlal in Guinea at the end of last year.
When he was arrested by local police, he turned out to be in possession of a Guinean passport that he obtained fraudulently.
