Flemish Education Minister Ben Weyts (N-VA) is investing more than €35 million in 92 school construction projects across Flanders and Brussels.

“Investing in the quality of our education is inextricably linked to investing in the quality of our education infrastructure,” Weyts said in a communiqué on Sunday.

School boards from the subsidised education sector (municipal, urban, provincial and free education) can receive financial support for construction or renovation works from AGION, the Agency for Infrastructure in Education.

Under the current government coalition, Flanders is allocating €3 billion to renew and expand school infrastructure. That is half a billion euros more compared to the previous coalition.

The school construction projects will allow thousands of pupils and school children to spend their lessons in brand new or renovated school infrastructure.

“By building new or renovating existing school buildings, we are literally and figuratively building the future of our education, the future of our young people,” Minister Weyts said.
