The centre of Nottingham was completely sealed off on Tuesday morning after three people were found killed at several locations in the central England city in a “tragic incident” involving a van, local police said.
A 31-year-old man “has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed in the town”, while three injured people are in hospital after a “van attempted to run (them) down,” Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement.
Police were first called at 04:00 (05:00 Belgian time) to a town centre street where two people were found dead. Then they were called to another location “where a van had attempted to run down three people,” who are currently in hospital.
Finally, a man was found dead on another street in the town, police detailed.
“This is a tragic and horrific incident,” Kate Meynell of Nottinghamshire Police was quoted in the statement as saying.
“We believe all three incidents are linked and we have a man in custody,” she added.

“We ask the public to be patient while inquiries continue. At this time, a number of roads in the city will remain closed as this investigation progresses,” the police statement read.

Fire engines, as well as liaison officers coordinating the work of several emergency services are also present.
Police official Neil Humphries had called on the public to avoid the area as these roads “are expected to remain closed for some time.”
