The Brussels municipality of Ixelles has power again after a major power cut caused disruption in the entire area for over an hour, Brussels electricity network operator Sibelga reports.

Many major streets in the Ixelles area were left without power at around 15:15 on Wednesday afternoon. Several large office buildings were affected.

Sibelga technicians were immediately made aware of the fault, which reportedly affected 15 high-voltage cabins, and made repairs as quickly as possible. The power outage was resolved at 16:49, the company announced on Twitter.

Avenue Louise, Rue du Bailli, Rue de la Concorde, Rue de la Grosse Tour, Rue de Livourne, Rue de la Longue Haie, Rue Mercelis, Rue Souveraine, Rue Paul Emile Janson and Rue du Président were all said to be affected.

Various buildings around Place Stéphanie were disconnected, exposing their dependence on electricity to keep running. The Silversquare co-working space had its lifts disabled and bathroom facilities deactivated. Workers were trapped in the building as the doors could no longer be opened. Phone connection to local businesses has also been disrupted.

On Sunday, similar large-scale power affected the Brussels municipalities of Saint-Gilles and Forest, leaving many streets without electricity. During periods of high heat, strain is often placed on the city's electricity infrastructure.

Update 17:00: This article was updated following Sibelga's announcement that the outage was resolved.
