The 26th edition of ‘Journées Fermes ouvertes’ (Open Farms Days) in Wallonia will offer the public a close look at the activities of 53 farms in the south of the country.
Sustainable consumption will be particularly highlighted during the event, which takes place this year on 1-2 July.
Traditionally held on the last weekend in June, the event has been moved back a week this year, to align it with the school holidays. It will showcase the diversity of agricultural activity in the region, through guided tours, demonstration workshops, exhibitions and a variety of tastings.
The youngest visitors have not been forgotten: carriage and donkey rides, bouncy castles and various games are also on the programme.
Walloon agriculture currently covers 740,623 hectares and includes 12,728 farms. For its part, the Walloon Agency for the Promotion of Quality Agriculture (Apaq-W) is encouraging consumers to turn to local, sustainable and seasonal food through its jecuisinelocal charter, which has already been signed by 15,000 people, both producers and consumers.
