Belgian start-up CBX Medical aims to conduct in-depth research into the medical possibilities of cannabis.

Its beneficial effects have already been proven, says the company, which now sells quality cannabis-based products in pharmacies.

“We want to increase the effectiveness of cannabinoids,” says founder Jonathan Blondiau. He plans to explore cannabinoids such as CBC and CBL, in addition to the well-known CBD.

CBX Medical has been around for a few years. Last year, the company sold €250,000 worth of quality cannabis products through pharmacies.

These include eight products based on cannabinoids, the active element in cannabis. They are administered to people suffering from conditions such as muscular pain, epileptic seizures and anxiety disorders.

The company was able to supplement a grant of €573,000 received from the Walloon government to arrive at a total amount of €800,000.

The money will be used by ULB for scientific research, which will be spread over four years and should lead, in around 10 years, to new cannabinoid-based medicines.
