The lifeless body of a 33-year-old man was discovered on Wednesday in the Parc Peterbos housing estate in Anderlecht, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office said, confirming a report in La Dernière Heure. An investigation is underway.

“The body of a deceased person was found in Parc Peterbos this Wednesday morning at around 05:30,” the prosecutor’s office said. “In view of the fact that it is believed to be a violent death, the public prosecutor’s office has referred the case to an investigating judge.”

The judge went to the scene with a magistrate from the prosecutor’s office, the forensic pathologist and the Federal Judicial Police laboratory, it added.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the man’s death.

According to La Dernière Heure, the body was found by a jogger at dawn on Wednesday on Maria Groenincks de May Avenue in Anderlecht, in the heart of the Parc Peterbos housing estate.

The victim “had his head full of blood,” according to witness statements gathered by the media.

A judicial exclusion perimeter was quickly set up by the Brussels-Midi police zone.
