Police officer that attacked arrested man in Molenbeek released
The police officer who was arrested on Wednesday after attacking an arrested man in Molenbeek has been released, confirmed his lawyer, Sven Mary. The police officer realises that he has tarnished the reputation of the entire police force, according to Mary. "This man has been working for the police for 12 years and this is a completely isolated fact," said Mary. "However, we will talk about the situation in which he acted in due time," he added.

In a violent video, a man is seen being held down by a policeman, while a second gets out of a car and kicks him in the head several times. He then hits him with his fists.

The reason for the police intervention was a theft in the Brussels-Capital-Ixelles police zone. The victim was initially arrested and taken by the police of Capital Ixelles. He was released afterwards and has since filed a complaint against the officer's actions.

"We have opened an investigation based on the video," the public prosecutor said. The police officer was arrested and interrogated on Wednesday and will be brought before the public prosecutor in Brussels on Friday morning. He risks up to two years in prison, reported Bruzz.
