Three people died and two were seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred at around 06:00 on Sunday on the A8 (E429), near Petit-Enghien.
The accident involved a Peugeot 3008 car, registered in France, that was travelling in the Brussels-Tournai direction when it swerved. It went over the safety rail and hit a van travelling in the Tournai to Brussels direction.
Four people were in the Peugeot. The two young men in the front of the vehicle died on the spot. They were aged between 20 and 30 and were believed to be from the Tourcoing region of France. The two female passengers, born in 2001 and 2005, were taken to Erasmus Hospital in Brussels in a critical condition. The driver of the van involved in the accident was the only person in the vehicle. He died at the scene. He was born in 1976 and lived in the Ath region.

Emergency services on the scene have yet to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. However, the public prosecutor’s office has indicated that it appears that excessive speed on the part of the Peugeot 3008 was the cause of the swerve.
The carriageway has been closed at the Hoves exit and a diversion from exit 25 via the N285 and the N7.
