The Herbert Hooverplein in Leuven is decorated with an unusual fountain.
It incorporates the outline of the city, based on a 1550 street plan of Leuven made by the Dutch cartographer Jacob van Deventer. Look closely and you will see the city wall, the 11 mediaeval gates and the three rivers that run through Leuven.
The fountain incorporates 60 water jets that are lit up at night. It forms part of a project to highlight the 12th-century city gates of Leuven, most of them destroyed.
