A Russian air strike on a restaurant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk left at least nine dead and 56 injured on Tuesday, according to the city's mayor, Oleksandr Honcharenko.

Ukrainian police report that Russia fired two missiles at the city, with one hitting the crowded Ria Pizza restaurant.

“The bodies of three people, including a minor born in 2008, have been recovered from the rubble. Among the injured was a child born in 2022,” the interior ministry announced yesterday on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy denounced the Russian government as “savages” and expressed his sympathy to the victims.

“Rescuers are digging through the rubble of the destroyed building and looking for people who are likely under the rubble,” the State Emergency Service of Ukraine added.

The strike comes on the anniversary of the fatal attack against a shopping mall in the city, Ukrainian officials announced. At least 22 people were killed in the Russian attack on the Amstor shopping centre, one of the bloodiest strikes against civilians since the start of the war.
