Employers in Brussels are struggling to recruit workers for 108 different jobs, according to the regional employment agency Actiris.
The figures are from Actiris' updated list of professions in "critical function", which regroups the different jobs in Brussels that are experiencing significant shortages.
The employment agency's list includes many of the usual suspects, with teaching shortages and a lack of care workers still affecting the capital. The construction sector was also included on the list, having failed to address the staff shortages it has been experiencing in recent years.
According to Actiris, there are several reasons for shortages in these professions, including difficult working conditions with long hours for too low a salary.
Furthermore, the reappearance of jobs such as financial analysts, hotel receptionists and domestic helpers on the list, after their omission in 2022 can be explained by last year's post-pandemic recovery.
However, other jobs dropped off the list, including credit advisors, surveyors, retail shop managers and estate agents.
