German car maker Audi must recall 1,644 of its e-tron electric cars, assembled in the Audi Brussels factory at Forest, in the United States, L'Echo and De Tijd reported.
According to Audi, the recall was due to a seal problem that posed a risk of water getting into the e-car's battery housing. Design and assembly errors have been ruled out at the Brussels factory, placing the error more likely down to a part delivered by a sub-contractor, reports Belga.
In the United States, repairs to the recalled vehicles could take until August. After that, owners would receive a replacement car and 800 dollars in diesel as compensation.
The stateside vehicle recall could lead to others. In Belgium, the car importer D'Ieteren was, in any case, preparing for that eventuality.
