House prices up by 0.4% in the Eurozone in the first quarter of 2023

House prices, as measured by the house-price index, rose by 0.4% in the Eurozone and by 0.8% in the European Union in the first quarter of 2023, compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, Eurostat reported on Wednesday.

In Belgium, the increase was 4.8%, according to the European statistical office.

Compared with the fourth quarter of 2022, house prices climbed in the Eurozone and the EU by 3.0% and 3.6% respectively.

Of the Member States for which data is available, six recorded a year-on-year drop in house prices in the first quarter of 2023. These were Sweden (-6.9%), Germany (-6.8%), Denmark (-6.2%), Finland (-5.1%), Luxembourg (-1.5%) and the Netherlands (-0.1%).

The biggest increases were registered in Croatia (+14.0%), Lithuania (+13.1%) and Bulgaria (+9.5%).
