The City of Brussels will once again bring the Marolles district to life on Belgian National Day, with the 20th edition of the Bal National and the 12th Resto national, organised on 20 and 21 July respectively.

The events will put popular culture in the spotlight with concerts and meals with a Belgian twist. Since 2003, the capital has been offering a popular ball on the Place du Jeu de Balle, the epicentre of the Marolles, hosted by personalities emblematic of Belgian culture.

At the time, the event was celebrating the 10th anniversary of the reign of King Albert II. Two decades later, the National Ball will celebrate Philippe’s 10 years on the throne. To mark the occasion, the King and Queen Mathilde will be present on 20 July for the twentieth edition of the event.

From 19:30 onwards, there will be a succession of free concerts featuring the rock band Sttellla, Alec Mansion, De Romeo’s and DJ Daddy K. A tribute will be paid to Grand Jojo, who has taken part in more than half the editions of this National Ball, as well as to Arno, Nicole Josy and Claude Barzotti. Up to 15,000 people are expected to attend.

The following day from 17:00, it’s time for the Resto national. Nearly 2,000 people are expected for a big meal of moules-frites. Reservations are open at €26 online and €29 on the spot. Up to 250 lower-income residents of Les Marolles will also be invited to this meal, which will be offered at a symbolic one euro. There will also be entertainment by majorettes and a giant karaoke show.

The Fête Nationale will also be in full swing on 21 July from 11:00 onwards from the Royal Park to Place Poelaert, with the traditional civilian and military parade scheduled for 16:00. The day will end at the Cinquantenaire with concerts from 21:00 before the traditional fireworks display, accompanied by a laser show, at 23:00.
