Authorities have found a man’s body in the water near Ostende.
The body, believed to be of a man in his forties from Brussels, was spotted in the waters of Spuikom, on the border of Ostende and Bredene, around 5.30 PM on Saturday, federal police have confirmed.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear at this time.
Maritime police and Ostende firefighters retrieved the body from the water, but were unable to revive the man. The federal police, confirming the victim’s residency in Brussels, stated that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances and time of death.
The prosecutor’s office is expected to provide further updates once more information regarding the cause of death becomes available.
