Flanders citizens, on average, contribute 968 euros per person a year in money which is distributed to other regions in the country, according to a newly released study by Belgian economist Eric Dor.

The contribution of households to the country's wealth creation was measured by their primary incomes. By levying taxes and social security contributions, the State redistributes these primary incomes between households, through social benefits, reimbursement of health care costs, and so on.

According to the study, the result is a redistribution of 6,290 billion euros going from Flanders to Wallonia and Brussels, which receive 5,221 billion euros and 1,068 billion euros respectively.

Citizens in Flanders were found to be net contributors of 968 euros per person on average a year. While on the receiving end, citizens in Wallonia and Brussels, gained 1,447 euros and 898 euros on average per person a year respectively.
